Washington, DC — September 30, 2009 – Everyone knows Halloween can be a scary time of year for children, but this October 31st approximately 30 DC-area women business leaders will confront their fears by jumping from an airplane flying 13,000 feet over Virginia’s countryside. This two-part event, called “Confronting Your Fears and Embracing Risk” is part of Success In The City’s Astute Institute program, a series of cutting edge events and information programs designed to help the group’s members aspire, learn, advance and achieve any of their heart’s desires. Success in the City is very pleased to announce that this program is being co-sponsored by the National Association of Women Business Owners, Greater DC Chapter.
First time skydiver and Success In The City member Julia Loughran says she is taking the plunge because she realizes as a business owner you have to learn to feel the fear and do it anyway. She feels this tandem jump will definitely get her adrenaline pumping – but it will also help her be a more daring business leader.
For women business leaders who feel fear by simply climbing a step ladder, they can learn important lessons by attending a panel of area business leaders talking about how they have found success by embracing risk. The panel, to be held on Tuesday, October 27th from 3-6 pm at Telos Corporation, 19886 Ashburn Road, Ashburn, VA, includes four inspirational panelists. They are Vernice Armor, now a trainer and motivational speaker who knows risk first-hand as America’s first female African American Combat Pilot; John Wood, CEO of Telos Corporation, who has taken many risks and built a successful government contracting company; Pat Locke, a member of the first class of women graduates from the US Military Academy who has dedicated her life to helping families and disadvantaged children; and finally, Christine Zebrowski who embraced risk when she left the comforts of a corporate legal job to start her own law firm two years ago. The sky diving portion will be held the following Saturday, October 31st at Sky Dive Orange in Orange, VA. Attendees can choose to attend one or both events, but must be pre-registered to participate. For more information about registration, see http://www.successinthecity.org and click on Events.
